Hand-Embroidered Screen
Cartier Flagship, Chengdu
Lucie Toure created a hand-embroidered screen for the Cartier flagship boutique in Chengdu, China, designed by Laura Gonzalez Officiel. Inspired by the delicate form of ginkgo leaves, the composition brings together paper elements gilded with copper leaf and metallic embroidery applied onto velvet.
The interplay of materials creates a rich visual and tactile depth: the softness of velvet contrasts with the luminosity of metal, while embroidery lends movement and relief to the surface. Light is captured, reflected, and softened, allowing the screen to shift subtly with its environment. Conceived as both an architectural and decorative element, the piece embodies a layered approach to craftsmanship, where precision, texture, and material dialogue elevate the space.
