Craft

Jolivet skillfully transforms ordinary thread into vibrant masses imbued with colors and patterns reminiscent of traditional painting. She is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of thread beyond its conventional textile applications. "I am interested in the diversion of the raw thread material to give it other aspects and forms, different from what it was initially designed for," she says. Beginning with simple thread, she employs it as a pigment to craft intricate surfaces, melding colors and forging striking contrasts. Solenne Jolivet intricately embroiders and molds these colored threads into mesmerizing, intertwined atolls, crafting, ever-evolving landscapes. In her quest to innovate textile surfaces and forge her unique material, Jolivet delves into the world of interior architecture. She stands at the forefront of thread-based art, pioneering the creation of intricate thread marquetry and mosaics rich in a spectrum of hues. "I imagine walls covered, decorative wall panels, veneer, screens..." she reflects, her work echoing bronze, stone, and metal elements.

Material

Jolivet’s artworks are created in her workshop located in Aubervilliers, Paris, France.  Handling thread with the finesse of a painter with pigments, she intentionally opts for a restricted range of threads meticulously sourced from a chosen group of suppliers from Germany and France. This choice ensures consistent thread quality across her artworks and aligns with her values of supporting local communities.
Solenne Jolivet, utilizes a diverse palette of colored threads, crafted from a variety of materials such as viscose, polyester, silk, and cotton, to enrich her creations with both color and texture.
